And I do wish this version of the book was available in English. I saw on Shaun Tan's website that he had created illustrations for Philip Pullmans excellent Grimms tales, but they were only used in a German edition.

Die ungewöhnlichen Bilder des Künstlers Shaun Tan (kleine Skulpturen in Fotos in Szene gesetzt) lassen viel Raum für eigene innere Bilder und die Erzählweise des Autors lässt bei vielen Märchen Wege offen, indem er deutlich macht: "Ich als Erzähler hätte hier einen anderen Fortgang oder dort eine andere Lösung der Geschichte gewählt!"

Grimms Märchen (Grimm Tales) Text by Philip Pullman. In 2012 I was approached by my German editor Klaus Humann of Aladin Verlag in Hamburg to consider a cover illustration, as well as perhaps some some internal drawings for a new edition of the Grimm Brothers collected folk tales written by Philip Pullman (the well known author of the His Dark Materials trilogy).

This book is astonishingly beautiful, and Shaun Tan's sculptural illustrations are fantastic - I only wish there were even more of them.
