Belvedere Castle

It is one of Central Park's five visitor centers. Fittingly, “belvedere” translates to “beautiful view” in Italian; originally built without doors or windows, Belvedere Castle was intended to be a viewing platform. Calvert Vaux, co-designer of the Park, conceived the miniature castle in 1858 as a whimsical open-air structure and lookout tower.

It contains exhibit rooms and an observation deck.
